TORONTO — Veteran city councillor, and former City of Toronto budget chief Shelley Carroll will be the Ontario Liberal candidate for Don Valley North.
“I am very pleased to welcome Shelley Carroll, to our team of candidates,” said Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne. “Shelley has a fantastic track record of supporting our shared work to invest in Toronto transit, childcare, and education. I am delighted to have her experience and expertise on our team. She's the kind of person we need at Queen's Park".
“I’m thrilled to take this next step in my career of public service, and very honoured by the Premier’s confidence in me,” Councillor Carroll said. “The Ontario Liberal government is an amazing partner for the City of Toronto, whether through the massive amounts of funding to build transit across the city, or else the critical work to invest in our schools, hospitals, and other vital public services. I got into politics to oppose Conservative cuts and I am so grateful for the work the Ontario Liberal government has done and continues to do to rebuild our public services, including right here in Toronto.
“I want to use the experience I have honed at City Hall and on the school board to contribute to the excellent work the Liberal government is doing for Toronto and for all Ontario. I’m excited by the opportunity to once again serve my constituents in this new role,” Councillor Carroll concluded.
Councillor Carroll is the first candidate appointed by Kathleen Wynne to run in an unheld riding for the 2018 election. The Ontario Liberal Party constitution allows for five such appointments.
Councillor Carroll will be available to speak to media at 3:00 PM outside of Committee Room 1 at City Hall. For more information contact: firstname.lastname@example.org.
